The Wizard Movie Review from the Salty Nerds has them ragging on this 80s movie that's a precursor to the esports movement, but essentially amounts to a 1 hour 40 minute long commercial for Nintendo.
Originally pitched as "The Karate Kid with Video Games" (spoiler, it isn't), this is more like Rainman with Video Games, except with Fred Savage as Tom Cruise. The movie is about Fred Savage taking his half-brother across country while hustling money from playing video games, until they meet up with a fellow runaway named Haley who convinces them to test their metal at the Video Apocalypse tournament in Hollywood.
Having to avoid predatory truckers, bullies, and a crazy bounty hunter, the trio make their way through the western untied states in the hope of competing in a Super Mario Bros. 3 tournament and getting their hands on a sweet Powerglove. That's so bad.
