In this episode of the Salty Nerd Podcast, the Nerds take a look at One Hit Wonder movies - movies where the filmmakers initially had a great deal of success, but have since gone on to do basically nothing.
The first One Hit Wonder is 1988's Heathers, directed by Michael Lehmann and starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. This dark comedy is full of biting satire and deals with controversial high school issues head on. However, Michael Lehmann has gone on to do basically nothing after making a splash with this film.
Next up is the pure definition of a One Hit Wonder - The Blair Witch Project. This ultra low-budget film cost $60,000 to make and ended up earning over $250 million in the theaters. But filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez haven't made anything since.
Finally, we have the "Citizen Kane of bad movies," Tommy Wiseau's The Room. A movie about love, friendship, and betrayal, but in the worst possible way you can imagine. This is a film that found cult success based off how bad it is, but Tommy Wiseau has yet to go on to do anything that replicates the passion people have for this huge turd of a film.
